16 Weeks!

Dear Nugget,
This past week, I got to go to Seattle, Washington for work. It was a pretty neat trip, and it was meant to better acquaint me with Amazon.com. I found it to be a great way to acquaint me with all that I am expected to know and do! I also saw Jeff Bezos throwing his trash into the appropriate containers (they have one for compost, landfill, and recycling). You don't know who Jeff Bezos is, but he is the CEO and founder of the company I work for, and is renowned for the fact that he has grown this business to a Fortune 100 in 16 years. Pretty amazing!

It was a great trip, but the time change was pretty drastic. Three hours earlier than here! Every time I called your daddy, he let me know what the "future" looked like. We sold our house last week, and so, it looks like you get to live with Mommy and Daddy! I have to tell you this is a big relief! Now, just the thought of you makes me look at everything differently. I was in the airport thinking about how to travel with you. Are you in a car seat on the plane? Do you check the car seat? What about your tiny ears popping? I'm going to need to read about traveling with an infant, or we can just not go anywhere.

I also realized that my thoughts on where I want to live are changing too. As we consider locations for a home, I find myself thinking of you. I didn't like a neighborhood yesterday because there were no sidewalks. I don't want to walk you in your stroller on the street! I notice steps, and think about how to keep the dog out of your play area. I think about making sure you are close to your family (both real and surrogate), and get plenty of access to all the people who love you already. I think about the what-ifs. What if you get sick? Who is going to care for you while we are at work? Always lots to think about.

In terms of what is happening this week, you now weigh in at a whopping three to five ounces, and are four to five inches in length. The bones that are now in place in your ears means you can probably hear my voice when I talk and sing in the car. (You are going to be so good at HR!! Just kidding) Your tiny muscles in your body, especially the ones in your back, are gaining strength, so you can straighten out a little more. And thanks to your developing facial muscles, you're capable of making a few expressive frowns and squints, even at this early stage. (Probably from my singing) And your eyes are finally working, making small side-to-side movements and perceiving light (although the eyelids are still sealed). Peekaboo!

More this coming week!
Lots of love!
Mom
